Get fresh food vouchers at your local farmers’ market in North Carolina

Lower-income older adults in North Carolina may qualify for summer vouchers to buy fresh produce at farmers’ markets.

The NC Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a summer-only program that provides vouchers to eligible lower-income older adults to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs at NC SFMNP-certified farmers’ markets. The program runs from July 1 to September 30 and is designed to improve the nutrition of older adults while supporting local farmers.

To be eligible, you must: (1) be 60 years of age or older; (2) live in a county with a participating local agency (the program is not available in all NC counties); and (3) have a household income of no more than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (in 2025, that was $2,413 or less per month for a one-person household).

Note: SFMNP is not an entitlement program. Even if you meet the eligibility requirements, vouchers are not guaranteed if funding runs out. Apply early.

To add your name to the voucher interest list, complete the NC SFMNP Voucher Interest Form at https://forms.office.com/g/Bf08FQBFun (Note: this is an interest form, not a formal application.)

For questions, email NCSFMNP@dhhs.nc.gov or contact NC DHHS at 1-800-662-7030.
