Frequently asked questions

Is EnergySage just for homeowners?

Not at all! Both homeowners and renters can take advantage of solar savings. If you own a home, you can explore rooftop solar to cut your energy costs long-term. If you rent or installing panels isn’t an option, you may still be eligible for community solar programs in CA, CO, DC, FL, IL, MA, MD, ME, MN, NJ, NY, RI, or OR letting you save on electricity without any installation.

What is community solar, and how does it work?

Community solar is an easy way to save on electricity if rooftop panels aren’t an option. By subscribing to a nearby solar farm, you receive credits on your electricity bill based on the energy it produces, typically reducing costs by 10–15%. With EnergySage, you can quickly find and enroll in community solar programs available in your area with no installation involved.

Do I need to install anything?

Nope! Community solar lets you support clean energy and save money without installing anything on your property.

How much does it cost?

Most community solar programs have no upfront costs - you just pay for the energy your share of the solar farm produces. Each month, you’ll get credits on your electricity bill, typically saving you 10–15%.

What happens if I move?

If you move within the same utility area, you can often transfer your subscription. If you move outside the area, you may need to cancel your subscription or transfer your contract to another customer. In some cases, there may be fees for canceling. Cancellation and transfer policies vary by project and provider, so it’s best to confirm the terms with your developer before signing up.
